Liquid Telecoms a division of Econet Wireless is in the process of installing fibre optic cables in the high density suburbs, in a move a bold move to give access to the millions of Zimbabweans who currently do not have access to the world wide web.
They have reportedly already installed fibre in Glen View, Mufakose, and they have begun digging up trenches in Kuwadzana(see image above), this might be a follow up of the successful fibre installation in Milton Park and Belgravia were they offer 10,15 and 20 Mbps speeds at the cost of $149,$199 and $259 respectively, which they also set up for free. They are also expanding to the Northen Suburbs namely Mt Pleasant and Borrowdale.
They are also planning to install fibre on every street in Zimbabwe according to the promotional material by ZOL, one of Liquid Telecoms subsidiaries. One thing for sure they are thinking big.
We will be reaching out to them for official news and developments so stay tuned.
